<div class="wiki text">I agree. Ivy seems like a good choice since it&#39;s built for that specific purpose. <div class="wiki text">This seems like an extreme example of DI. I wouldn&#39;t generally consider the controller to be the dependencies, it&#39;s the thing that <strong>has</strong> dependencies. To me, a dependency is something like a database connection, logger, mailer, authentication scheme, etc. I&#39;m having trouble envisioning a situation where it would make sense to replace the <strong>entire</strong> controller implementation. Can you provide a more concrete example where this is actually useful?</div>

<div class="wiki text">Well the way that ASP.NET MVC addresses this issue is that it delegates the creation of the controller to a factory. When using DI, you&#39;d then implement your customer factory. So in essence, I&#39;d then have my IoC container do the creation of the controller, passing in the appropriate instances.</div>

<div class="comment-body">
<div class="wiki text">I&#39;m still a little confused on this one. I&#39;m not sure how passing parameters into the controller constructor would actually address DI issues. Where would you define what gets passed? If one wanted to, I suppose you could construct controllers by hand in the application init() method and add them to the dispatcher, but this hardly seems like a solution to anything.<br/><br/>I think that proper DI for controllers should be handled by passing the current AppConfig into the controller when it&#39;s constructed. This way, the controller can use the configuration to select its dependencies. This selection process could take several forms:<br/><br/><pre class="prettyprint">
class MyController(appConfig : AppConfig) : BaseController(appConfig) {

    // use a factory (string only)
    val logger = LoggerFactory.getLogger(appConfig[&quot;myLoggerClass&quot;])

    // use a factory (knows about appConfig)
    val db = DatabaseFactory.getConnection(appConfig)

    // default value
    var someSecret = &quot;892nn082843b209vn&quot;

    {
        // simple environment case
        if (appConfig.isProduction)
            someSecret = &quot;9f02309f92n209efj20&quot; // use the production secret
    }
}

<div class="wiki text">Seems like a good approach. More specifically, I would imagine the middleware trait to look something like this:<br/><br/><pre class="prettyprint">
trait Middleware {
    beforeRequest(context : ActionContext) : jet.Bool
    afterRequest(context : ActionContext) : jet.Bool
}
</pre><br/>So the methods have access to the ActionContext, which lets them access the request, response, and session. Then each method can return false to stop the pipeline (like if authentication fails). <br/><br/>I&#39;ll get going on implementing this.</div>

<div class="wiki text">Thanks Hadi, that&#39;s the magic constructor to use for InCloud. I think it&#39;s a little hard to find how to make a simple connection to InCloud. It might be obvious to YouTrack veterans, but a 4 parameter constructor has a lot that can go wrong, from needing &#39;false&#39; for useSSL to putting the &quot;youtrack&quot; in the path. It would be nice if this info was front and center in the docs, or at least the Readme.md.</div>
